Thank you BIBA 2024

Owen, Ellie, Hamza and Raquel of Amaniki, had an amazing time on our stand at BIBA 2024, the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) conference in Manchester.

Underwriting Assistant Hamza King, attending BIBA for the first time said “Walking into BIBA is a surreal experience. On the left, GoCompare; on the right, AXA XL. It's hard to imagine how vast and diverse the insurance industry is until it all comes together for two days of the year. People from all different parts of the industry sit together and talk about the work they have been doing.”

Head of Claims and General Counsel Owen Dacey, a seasoned BIBA attendee said “BIBA is a fantastic event and provides the team with a platform on which to engage with brokers in person to discuss management liability and W&I risks, and to showcase Rising Edge’s expanding product range and capabilities. The best thing about BIBA though is in-person interactions with real human beings!

Major highlights included being able to share and discuss our enhanced capability to underwrite up to $/£/€ 10m per risk on D&O; introducing our new D&O product designed specifically for Non-Executive Directors, NED Protect; and talking through the cycle of employment practices liability, pension trustees’ liability, and commercial crime insurance claims and risk management.

An added bonus for those who attended the Rising Edge stand was the opportunity win a Dulwich Hamlet shirt. The response was overwhelming, and we were delighted to discover that many visitors had connections to the club. Ranging from a cousin of the current Chairman of the club, a season ticket holder born in Dulwich Community Hospital, through to someone who made his debut for Dagenham and Redbridge at Champion Hill. These connections underscored the power of community and the far-reaching impact of our partnership with the club! Congratulations to our winner, Justin. The shirt is on its way to you…

Throughout the event, some conversations revolved around the complexities of today’s world and the increasing political instability, which makes it a challenging time for directors to navigate their responsibilities. This environment generates risks in various areas, exacerbated by the tough economic backdrop globally. As a result, directors face heightened challenges in ensuring compliance and protecting their organizations from emerging threats.

Amid these discussions, there was still some optimism though, as many expect to see economies rebound and an uptick in M&A activity in the second half of 2024, increasing the demand for W&I insurance.

Niki Dermirbelek, MD of AMANIKI’s W&I Insurance Business remarked,

“It has been a brutal two years dealmaking. Following the M&A boom of 2021, the value and volume of deals remains well below historical averages in Europe and in the US. Slowly, we are seeing the second part of 2024 as a year of recovery for M&A activity driving by eager buyers and valuation decrease, greater market certainty – borrowing costs peaked and inflation is receding, and greater certainty in the financing backdrop as well. This has a huge impact on M&A insurance”

Overall, BIBA 2024 was a resounding success for the Rising Edge team. It allowed us to showcase our capabilities, introduce innovative products, and forge meaningful connections with a range of industry professionals.

We look forward to continuing these discussions at BIBA 2025!
